After the remarkable success of the First National Figure Skating Championships, Cairo, July 6th, 2019, Ice Skate Egypt held a week-long summer day camp under the direction of US professional coach and choreographer Monica Hale, together with US coach Jamie White.
Skaters learned the choreography, developed performance technique and improved their skating skills. The camp culminated with a spectacular figure skating show titled “Skate the World”, with performances to music from around the world.
Spectators were taken on a tour of countries such as Brazil, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, USA and many more before safely returning to Egypt for the grand finale. The show was held at SunCity Mall rink on the evening of July 12th and was extremely well attended.
This event was the first of its kind in Egypt in the sense that kids attended a unique figure skating day camp that provided instruction in both sport and artistry. The instruction they received enabled them to put on an incredible performance that they learned over the course of just 5 days.
To achieve this goal, the camp was extremely organized, followed a set schedule (9:00-3:00 daily), and had specific objectives that were accomplished each day. The camp also fostered a sense of community among Egyptian figure skaters living in Egypt and abroad. Skaters left with not only improved skating technique but also with lasting memories and friendships fostered through sport.
This was also an opportunity for the camp skaters to work with internationally competitive athletes. The guest stars of the show were Sara Conti and Niccolò Macii, an Italian pair team. Sara and Niccolò not only did pair and solo programs but also skated alongside the campers in group numbers.
At the end of the show, awards were presented by His Excellency Dr. Emad El-Bannany, President of Sports for All Federation Egypt, Dr. Bahga Rizk, President of Ice Skate Egypt committee, and Dr. Heba Guirgis, Founder of Ice Skate Egypt.
